Team Practice Schedule for August 26 - August 31

Here is the practice schedule for our fourth full week of practice.

We have four scheduled practices this week: Monday - Thursday.
We have our second meet of the season on Friday at Delta, Colorado.

Monday August 26 @ 5:30 pm: 5 mile run.

Tuesday August 27 @ 5:30 pm: Speed work on the track led by coach Greg. 

Wednesday August 28 @ 5:30 pm: 4 mile tempo run.

Thursday August 28 @ 5:30 pm: Taper run of 3 - 3.5 miles miles to City Park and back followed by team meeting to discuss proper running techniques.

Friday August 29: Second meet of the season - The Delta Invitational in Delta, Colorado. Team members will be dismissed from school at 9:30 am to board the bus for Delta. BRING YOUR HOMEWORK WITH YOU TO DO ON THE BUS! We will stop at Subway in Grand Junction for lunch around 11:30 am. So that we can return to Moab by 6:00 pm for the band members, all runners will run in the varsity races. The girls varsity race is at 2:00 pm followed by the boys varsity race at 2:45. Immediately after the meet we will return to Moab. We should be back at the High School around 6:00 pm.

Saturday August 31 or Sunday September 1: Easy 4 - 5 mile run on your own.

Team Practice Schedule for August 19 - August 26

Here is the practice schedule for our third full week of practice.

We have four scheduled practices this week: Monday - Wednesday and again on Friday. 

We have our first meet of the season on Thursday.

Monday August 19 @ 6:00 pm: Parent meeting starts at 6:00 in the high school auditorium. Immediately following the meeting (around 7:00 or so) we will meet on the track for a medium 4 mile run.

Tuesday August 20 @ 5:30 pm: 4 mile tempo run.

Wednesday August 21 @ 5:30 pm: Taper run of 3 - 3.5 miles miles to City Park and back. After the run we will hand out uniforms.

Thursday August 22: First meet of the season - The Highland Invitational in Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. Team members will be dismissed from school at 10:00 am to board the bus. BRING YOUR HOMEWORK WITH YOU TO DO ON THE BUS! We will stop at the Subway in Green River for lunch around 11:15. First race of the day (Frosh/Soph boys) is at 3:45. After the meet we will stop for dinner before heading back to Moab. We should be back at the High School around 10:30 pm.

Friday August 23 @ 3:00 pm: Captain's practice. Meet on the track for the first Captain's Practice of the year.


Saturday - Sunday August 24/25: Easy 4 - 5 mile run on your own.

Parent Meeting

Grand County High School will be hosting the fall sports meeting for parents and players on Monday August 19 starting at 6:00 PM. The agenda for the parents meeting is:

1) Administrators will speak to all the parents/guardians and the athletes
2) Coaches will break out and have specific team meetings with their parents and players
3) Viewing of a hazing video, which is a requirement for all coaches, players and parents.

Team Practice Schedule for August 12 - August 18

Here is the practice schedule for our second week of practice.

We have six scheduled practices this week - one each day Monday - Saturday. Practice time changes starting on Thursday with school starting that day.

Monday August 12 @ 6:00 am: Medium run for all runners - approximately 4 - 4 1/2 miles.

Tuesday August 13 @ 6:00 am: 3 mile timed run

Wednesday August 14 @ 6:00 am: 5k effort repetitions (speed work) on the track. 4 x 200 meters; 4 x 400 meters; 4 x 200 meters. 100 meter recovery walk between repetitions.

Thursday August 15 @ 7:00 pm: 4 mile timed tempo run at 80% of 3 mile effort.

Friday August 16 @ 7:00 pm: 12 x 200 meter at 3k effort with 100 meter recovery walk between repetitions.

Saturday August 17 @ 7:00 am: Our first Saturday morning pancake run. Meet in the parking lot at Denny's at 7:00 am. We will run four 1 mile repeats before having a team pancake breakfast at Denny's.

First meet is scheduled for Thursday August 22 at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. Let's have a great week of practice to prepare for our first meet!

Wasatch Wellness Run

Congratulations to our seven team members and to Coach Greg on their successful performance at the Wasatch Wellness Run in Provo on Saturday morning August 2nd. Here are the results:

Annie Heywood: 5k - 29:59 (2nd in her age group)
Mercedes James: 5k - 23:48 (2nd overall female)
Jackson Knowles: 10k - 36:26 (1st in age group)
Jayelen Knowles: 10k - 44:54 (2nd overall female)
Alan Snow: 10k - 43:14 (1st in age group)
Cameron Wakefield: 5k - 23:22 (1st in age group)
Mackay Wakefield: 5k - 26:42 (3rd in age group)

Coach Greg Poettgen: 10k - 36:28 (1st in age group)

Welcome to the first week of practice!

We have 5 practices this week - Monday thru Friday at 6:00 am on the High School Track.

Monday August 5: Medium run for all runners. 30 minutes for new runners; 45 minutes for veteran runners.

Tuesday August 6: Medium run for all runners. 30 minutes for new runners; 45 minutes for veteran runners.

Wednesday August 7: 5k effort repetitions (speed work) on the track. 3 x 200 meters; 3 x 400 meters; 3 x 200 meters. 200 meter walk between repetitions.

Thursday August 8: Medium run for all runners. 30 minutes for new runners; 45 minutes for veteran runners.

Friday August 9: Long uphill run up Sand Flats Hill. 1/2 way for new runners; all the way to the top for veterans.
